Selendang Sutra

Ketika lenganku terluka parah,

selendang sutramu turut berjasa

Demikian sebagian dari lirik lagu klasik “Selendang Sutra”, karya Ismail Marzuki. Menggunakan latar berupa masa Perang Kemerdekaan (1945-1949), lagu ini mungkin mengisahkan hubungan cinta di antara seorang bujang (prajurit) dan seorang gadis (perawat) dari kubu Indonesia. Sang gadis, agaknya, telah menghadiahkan selendang sutranya kepada sang bujang sebagai tanda cinta. Selendang sutra itu, kelak, digunakan oleh sang bujang sebagai bahan darurat untuk menyumbat lukanya ketika lengannya terluka parah di sebuah medan pertempuran.

Penyumbatan luka merupakan langkah pertama untuk pemulihan luka luar, agar darah tidak lagi terbuang ke luar tubuh. Penyumbatan luka sebenarnya bisa dilakukan oleh darah itu sendiri, karena darah mengandung zat-zat penyumbat, yaitu platelet dan fibrin. Segera setelah luka terbentuk, platelet akan menutup luka, dan fibrin akan menjahit platelet tersebut ke jaringan di sekitar luka. Kemudian, keduanya akan memadat dengan cepat. Namun, bila ukuran luka itu terlalu besar, penyumbatan luka oleh keduanya memerlukan waktu yang lama. Karena itu, diperlukan bahan tambahan dari luar tubuh (misalnya: selendang sutra, seperti pada lagu di atas) untuk menyumbat luka tersebut.

Bagi penderita diabetes, penyumbatan luka menjadi masalah tersendiri. Kadar glukosa yang berlebihan pada darah penderita diabetes menyebabkan platelet dan fibrin tidak bisa memadat dengan cepat. Karena itu, diperlukan obat untuk mempercepat pemadatan zat-zat tersebut.

Beberapa orang peneliti dari Jerman melaporkan pada tahun 2015 bahwa ada suatu bahan alami yang dapat mempercepat pemadatan zat-zat tersebut (pro-coagulant), yaitu cairan ekskresi dari larva serangga Lucilia sericata [1]. Temuan ini memberikan dukungan ilmiah untuk pemanfaatan cairan tersebut sebagai sediaan untuk pengobatan luka luar. ■
